Full Committee Business Meeting

The Oversight Committee will hold a business meeting on Thursday, August 2nd, to consider the following bills:

  • H.R. 928 - The Improving Goverment Accountability Act, which would strengthen the role of the Inspectors General (IGs) in providing independent oversight within federal agencies.
  • H.R. 733 - (Reps. Norton and T. Davis) The District of Columbia Budget Autonomy Act of 2007, which would allow the District to enact its own local budget without annual congressional oversight.
  • H.R. 1054 - (Rep. Norton) The District of Columbia Legislative Autonomy Act of 2007, which would amend the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to eliminate the congressional review of newly-passed District laws.
  • H.R. 312 - (Rep. Pearce) The Civilian Service Recognition Act, which authorizes the presentation of flags at the funerals of civilian federal employees engaged in the support of military operations who have died in combat zones in the course of their duties.

The Committee will also consider the following resolutions and postal naming measures:

  • H. Res. 554 - Introduced by Rep. Barbara Lee, this measure supports the goals and ideals of National Passport Month.
  • H. R. 3106 - Introduced by Rep. Baron Hill, this bill designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 805 Main Street in Ferdinand, Indiana, as the “Staff Sergeant David L. Nord Post Office.”
  • H.R. 2778 - Introduced by Rep. Nita Lowey, this bill designates the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 3 Quaker Ridge Road in New Rochelle, New York, as the “Robert Merrill Postal Station.” Mr. Merrill, a native of New York, was a professional singer for the Metropolitan Opera Company. One of America’s foremost baritone singers, Mr. Merrill died in 2004 in New York City.
  • H.Res. 544 - Introduced by Todd Tiahrt, Expressing the sympathy and pledging the support of the House of Representatives and the people of the United States for the victims of the devastating thunderstorms that caused severe flooding in 20 counties in eastern Kansas beginning on June 26, 2007.
