Secretary of State
Colin L. Powell
 | |  Secretary Powell visited the tsunami-affected areas of South Asia. He met with officials of the concerned governments and observed first hand some of the areas that have seen devastation. He went to Bangkok, Thailand with Governor Jeb Bush, who has great experience in these kinds of relief efforts, and USAID Administrator Andrew Natsios. From Bangkok, Thailand, they went to Phuket , then on to Jakarta and Aceh in Indonesia. The Secretary also attended an ASEAN-sponsored international conference in Jakarta to help deal with this situation. After stopping in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to look at tsunami relief efforts, the Secretary traveled on to Nairobi, Kenya. In Nairobi, he witnessed the signing of the comprehensive peace accords on Sudan. While in Nairobi, he met with Kenyan Government officials, as well as Sudanese leaders.
