Fryzel Welcomes NASCUS CEO to NCUA

August 28, 2008, Alexandria, Va. – National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Michael E. Fryzel welcomed National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS President Mary Martha Fortney today at NCUA headquarters.  The meeting follows Chairman Fryzel’s speech last week at the NASCUS State System Summit in Seattle.
“As I stated last week in my remarks to NASCUS, a working partnership between the federal and state regulatory systems is essential, and today’s meeting with Ms. Fortney served to further efforts in that direction,” stated Chairman Fryzel.  “During my days as a state regulator in Illinois, I found NASCUS to be an essential and vital resource, and I look forward to a good working relationship becoming even better.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of nearly 87 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
