Corpus Christi, TX - The last two Disaster Recovery Centers set up in the wake of Hurricane Claudette will close at the end of the day on Saturday September 6, 2003. Disaster Recovery Centers are designed to provide information to those who have already registered for state and federal assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA.

These centers are open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until close of business on Saturday September 6.
South Texans who still need to check on the status of their application, or to provide additional information will still be able to do that by calling 1-800-621-FEMA. The Helpline will be available to provide information even after the registration deadline has passed.
Individuals and businesses in the 18 disaster declared counties (Aransas, Atascosa, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, DeWitt, Frio, Galveston, Goliad, Jackson, Karnes, Live Oak, Matagorda, McMullen, Refugio, Victoria, San Patricio and Zavala) who suffered losses or damage as a result of Hurricane Claudette may still apply for assistance or discuss their existing application by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The deadline to apply for assistance is Monday, September 15, 2003.
On March 1, 2003, FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. FEMA's continuing mission within the new department is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages Citizen Corps, the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.
