Pat Roberts Intelligence Scholars Program - (PRISP)

The Pat Roberts Intelligence Scholars (PRISP) provides monetary incentive to college students who pursue studies in critical language specialties, area studies, and technical and scientific specialties. Funded by Congress, PRISP allows the Directorate of Intelligence to hire individuals with academic backgrounds and skills that meet our requirements. The program offers stipends of between $10,000.00 and  $25,000.00. Candidates for this program* are college students (undergraduate and graduate) who meet the following criteria:

  • Served as a student intern in the Directorate of Intelligence during 2007;

  • Will complete their final year of academic study by May 2008; and

  • Have a demonstrated interest in a career in intelligence analysis.  

 In addition, candidates must meet the following academic requirements:

  • Area expertise in China, Middle East, South Asia, Korea, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Russia, the Caucasus, Africa, or Latin America; or

  • Coursework in counterterrorism, Islamic Studies, physical sciences (physics, biology, chemistry, microbiology), engineering (aerospace, chemical, bio-medical, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, structural), applied mathematics, computer engineering, computer science, political science, or economics; or

  • Expertise or academic training in national security, international affairs, political science, analytic methodology, financial security, international banking, international finance, or international organizations; and/or

  • Language training or proficiency is desirable (and adds a significant competitive edge), particularly in Chinese, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Pashtun, Dari, Turkish, Korean, or a Central Asian or Caucasian language such as Georgian, Turkmen, Tajik, or Uzbek. 

 *Eligible candidates for this program are selected from the 2007 Directorate of Intelligence student intern population; no external applications accepted.


To be considered for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last 12 months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to 12 months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.
