DENVER, CO – To help Denver-area residents seeking to renew or replace their permanent resident cards (green cards) or apply for employment authorization, U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (CO-01) added information on her Web site about the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) new electronic filing (e-filing) program.

Green card and employment authorization applications are two of the most commonly submitted immigration forms, representing approximately 30 percent of the 7 million applications filed with BCIS every year.  The e-filing program will make it more convenient for people to file these applications any time, 24 hours a day 7days a week and make it easier for these applications to be completed and processed.

“I am happy any time we can make it easier and more convenient for people to interact with government agencies,” said Rep. DeGette. “This is a step in the right direction to making the immigration and citizenship process more user-friendly.”

According to BCIS, the identities of those using the e-filing program are confirmed electronically via photograph, signature, and fingerprint information the individual previously provided to the agency.

The BCIS does not require people who e-file to submit photographs at the time they file their applications. Instead, they can schedule themselves for an appointment to visit an Application Support Center (ASC) at a convenient time for the electronic collection of a photograph, signature, and fingerprint. After filing electronically, customers will schedule their appointment by calling the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283.
