WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced that Denver received three of the six new long distance flights of over 1,250 miles being added to Washington National Airport. Frontier Airlines was awarded two of the new, direct flights from the Nation’s Capital to Denver International Airport (DIA), with United Airlines winning the additional fight. The new flights from National Airport mark the first expansion of service for the airport since 2000.

Since 2000, U.S. Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO), whose district includes DIA, has been working with the airlines and the Department of Transportation to get expanded service from Washington, DC to Denver. More recently, she led a delegation effort to help Frontier Airlines win new flights from National Airport. Rep. DeGette also worked with several members of the delegation in support of United Airlines receiving additional flights.

“This is great news for Frontier and United Airlines and great news for Coloradoans,” said Rep. DeGette. “As the West’s largest airport, DIA plays a critical role in the economy of Colorado and the entire region. Expansion of flights will help fuel the growth of our airport and provide additional travel choices for everyone who uses our DIA.”

In addition to the three new flights from Washington, DC to Denver, the U.S. Department of Transportation recently announced that Frontier Airlines would receive two new flights that Rep. DeGette supported from DIA to New York’s LaGuardia Airport.
