Director Hayden's Statement on Veterans Day

Statement to Employees by Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, General Mike Hayden on Veterans Day

November 8, 2007

On Sunday, our nation will pause to mark Veterans Day. Communities from coast to coast will pay tribute to those who have served in our military, past and present, in peace and in war. On the front lines of the current conflict, the day will unfold like any other—with the pressing and dangerous demands of war being met with the courage, strength, and persistence of the United States Armed Forces.

At CIA, we understand the importance of that service and the sacrifices involved. Thousands of you have shared the front-line fight, demonstrating our Agency’s commitment to our military partners and our determination to meet the enemy wherever he may be. From locations across the globe, thousands more of you have supported those who are forward deployed. Each and every contribution is vital to the safety of our fellow citizens, including those who fought in wars past and those who will serve in the future.

Once again, Steve [Kappes], Michael [Morell], and I thank you for your service and dedication. Please also extend our gratitude to your families, especially if you will be spending this holiday far from home.

Mike Hayden
