WASHINGTON, D.C.
– Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) today issued the following statement upon President Bush’s call for Congress to give him the authority to raise automobile fuel efficiency standards:
"I support the President's initiative to improve CAFE standards for automobiles as part of the solution to our growing dependence on foreign oil. The President rightly wants the authority to raise these standards, and we will work as quickly as possible to ensure Congress passes legislation to give him this authority."
