WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman
John P. Murtha, Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, announced
today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released $331,692
in funding for Excela Health Frick
Hospital in Mount
Pleasant, Westmoreland
County.
Murtha secured this funding in the fiscal year 2008 Labor,
Health and Human Services, Education annual Appropriations bill.
This funding will be used to continue development of a
comprehensive, community-based geriatric care program at Frick Hospital. Eighteen percent of the population within the
Hospital’s service area is aged 65 and older, living with at least one chronic
illness, and many are suffering from memory, psychological or movement
disorders. The area also has a large
number of veterans who have limited access to a VA facility.
Murtha visited Frick
Hospital in August, where
he toured their recently renovated emergency department and was briefed on
their developing geriatrics care program.
“I’m amazed by both the quality of care and the patient focused
atmosphere at Frick
Hospital,” said
Murtha. “This funding will allow them to
provide the elderly population in our area with continued first-class care and
support.”
