WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin (both D-Md.) today announced that the Hurlock Police Department has been awarded a $35,000 Economic Impact Initiative Grant from the USDA’s Rural Development program to purchase two new patrol cars for the police department.

“As the pressures on our state and local law enforcement agencies increase, we must do what we can to protect our protectors with the resources they need. I am proud that this money will give the Hurlock Police Department the federal investment it deserves,” said Senator Mikulski. “I will continue to fight to make Dorchester County a priority in the federal checkbook.”

“Dorchester County residents need to know that their police department has the resources to carry out its duties,” said Senator Cardin. “I am pleased that this grant will provide the police department with what I consider essential equipment for law enforcement. “

The town of Hurlock has a population of approximately 1,874. The police department currently has eight cars, four of which have over 100,000 miles on them.

Rural Development was created to help improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. Financial programs support essential public facilities and services such as water and sewer systems, housing, health clinics, emergency service facilities and electric and telephone service. The program also promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through banks and community-managed lending pools.
