Links to CIA.gov
You may freely link to the Central Intelligence Agency Web
site or any of its content. Unless a copyright is indicated, CIA.gov is a public domain Web site, which means you may link to
it or any of its content at no cost and without our permission. We ask only
that you identify that the link is to a Central Intelligence Agency Internet
resource.
Disclaimer of Endorsement
Reference in this Web site to any specific
commercial products, processes, or services, or the use of any trade, firm, or
corporation name is for the information and convenience of the site's visitors
and does not constitute endorsement, recommendation, or favoring by the US government
or the Central Intelligence Agency. See our full Disclaimer of Endorsement.
Links to Other Government Web Sites
CIA.gov may add a link to any government Web
site that is publicly available unless directed not to by the agency that owns
the site. Acceptable Federal government-owned or government-sponsored Web site
domains include .gov, .mil, and .fed.us. CIA.gov may also link to:
quasi-government agencies and Web sites created by public sector/private sector
partnerships; state and local government sites (e.g., www.virginia.gov); and
some government-sponsored Web sites that end in .com, .org, or .net.
Reciprocal Links
CIA.gov does not engage in reciprocal linking. We
link to information according to our linking criteria, whether or not the
other Web site links to us.
Prohibitions
The CIA maintains a zero tolerance policy on harassment and
discrimination.
Accordingly, CIA.gov will not link to any Web site that contains content
inconsistent with this zero tolerance policy.
Additionally, CIA.gov will not link to any Web
site that requires payment or registration to view its content.
Finally, CIA.gov reserves the right to remove any
link the CIA determines, in its sole discretion, is inconsistent with the
Agency’s mission or any of its policies, is misleading, and/or that is no longer
relevant to CIA.gov visitors.
Links to Non-Federal Web sites
In limited instances, CIA.gov may link to Web
sites that are not government-owned or government-sponsored if these Web sites
provide information and/or services that are not available on an official
government Web site. CIA.gov may provide links to these non-government Web
sites solely as a service to CIA.gov visitors. The US government neither endorses nor
guarantees in any way the external organizations, services, advice, or products
included in these Web site links. (See Disclaimer of Endorsement for more information on this topic.) Further, the US government neither controls nor guarantees the accuracy, relevance, timeliness, or completeness of the information contained in non-government Web site links.
Links to non-Federal Web sites that
the Agency has deemed necessary are found primarily in one place on CIA.gov:
Please contact us about links from CIA.gov to Web sites you believe are
inappropriate.
Non-Federal Link Evaluation Criteria
Executive
Order 12731, dated Oct. 17, 1990, as well as 5 CFR 2635.101(b)(8), require that
government agencies act impartially and not give preferential treatment to any
private organization or person. As such, every private organization or person requesting,
in writing via our Contact CIA form, a link from
CIA.gov to their Web site will be given equal consideration by the CIA to
determine if the requested link meets the Agency’s policy for inclusion of
external links on CIA.gov. The CIA.gov policy council evaluates all links
similarly using a number of criteria, including the following:
-
Is
a link to the recommended Web site's content necessary for the CIA’s mission?
-
Is
the Web site relevant and useful to CIA.gov visitors or a segment of CIA.gov
visitors?
-
Does
the recommended Web site complement existing information on CIA.gov?
-
Does
the recommended Web site provide community-level information or services of
interest to CIA.gov visitors or a segment of CIA.gov visitors?
-
Is the recommended Web site an official government-owned or
supported Web site?
-
Does the recommended Web site provide official government
information or services?
-
Does the recommended Web site violate or contain prominent links to
Web sites that violate CIA’s Zero Tolerance of Harassment and Discrimination
policy?
Privacy and Security
Check the CIA.gov Privacy
and Security notices for more
information about CIA.gov Privacy and Security policies.
