Sen. Cornyn Commemorates Rich Legacy Of Anne Armstrong
A quintessential Texan, model citizen and pioneer for women

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, today issued the following statement regarding the passing of Anne Armstrong. Sen. Cornyn also said he intends to introduce a Senate Resolution honoring her life and the rich legacy she leaves behind.
“Today, my family and I mourn the loss of a longtime friend and a Texas legend in politics, business and diplomacy. Anne Armstrong was a model citizen, a passionate leader, and a pioneer for women. As the first female to serve as Counselor to the President, she broke barriers for women and ascended the political ladder in a traditionally male-dominated arena. She stood for core values like freedom, opportunity and family. She did not let the status quo hold her back, and she fought for causes she believed in with dogged determination.
“South Texas will not be the same without her presence. A quintessential Texan, Anne had a deep love and respect for our state’s vast lands and diverse people. I send my sincere condolences to her family as they mourn the passing of this true Texas trailblazer.”
Sen. Cornyn serves on the Armed Services, Judiciary and Budget Committees. In addition, he is Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Ethics. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee’s Immigration, Border Security and Refugees subcommittee and the Armed Services Committee’s Airland subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
