For the purposes of researching women's history and culture, the recorded sound collections can be considered as covering
four broad areas:
radio broadcasts
music recordings
recordings of dramatic and literary performances
recordings of the spoken word
Obviously, considerable overlap exists among the four groupings—radio broadcasts encompass both music and the spoken word,
and dramas are frequently broadcast on the radio. Such an arrangement, however, allows us to highlight nonmusic, unpublished
collections that have come to the Library of Congress from individuals, organizations, or associations.
