The specialized systems include, but are not limited to, data communications, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), UHF/VHF radio networks, terrestrial communication, and satellite/microwave communication capabilities. Officers receive a variety of overseas benefits and allowances that positively impact overall compensation.

Minimum qualifications include the following:  An associate's degree in Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Systems Network Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology or similar degrees from a technical trade school. A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is also required. The TISO F/E educational requirement (e.g., undergraduate degree) may be substituted with equivalent military or civilian technical background in electronics, information systems, computer technology, or technical certification by the Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) organization as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) and/or RCDD-LAN Specialist, Cisco Systems as a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or Microsoft as a Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE). Additional desired skills include general construction skills and a working knowledge of electrical power systems

All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. US citizenship is required.

To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.
