National EPA-Tribal Science Council

The National EPA-Tribal Science Council, commonly referred to as the Tribal Science Council (TSC), was created in partnership with tribal representatives to help integrate Agency and tribal interests, specifically with respect to environmental science issues. The TSC provides a forum for tribes and EPA to identify priority environmental science issues and collaboratively design effective solutions. The Council seeks to increase tribal involvement in EPA's scientific activities - building bridges between tribal and Agency programs.

The TSC was initiated in 1999 when, in an address before the Tribal Caucus, Norine Noonan (former Assistant Administrator of EPA's Office of Research and Development) called for the formation of a Tribal Science Council to provide a structure for tribal involvement in the Agency's science efforts. Beginning in November of 2000, a group of Tribal Caucus volunteers and EPA representatives worked collaboratively to develop the Mission and Goals of the TSC and establish the initial membership.
