CHAIRMAN STEVENS COMMENTS ON NOMINATION OF NEW COMMANDANT OF THE COAST GUARD
Upon the President's announcement of its nomination of Vice Admiral Thad W. Allen to be the next Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) made the following statement:

“Vice Admiral Allen distinguished himself in the way he handled duties assigned to him following the tremendous disasters in the New Orleans area caused by Hurricane Katrina. He is amply qualified for this position. Co-Chairman Inouye and I will work together to hold a confirmation hearing for Admiral Allen as soon as possible.”
