Education

I want to help every student reach their fullest potential. I am proud to have played a part in moving legislation that gives local schools the flexibility to spend funds where they are most needed. Parents, teachers and local school administrators -- those who know the children's names -- must be given more control over education dollars; not the Washington bureaucracy. In addition to giving local schools more control, I support legislation that sets high standards -- holding states, school districts and individual schools accountable; provides the necessary funds to retain quality teachers; and develops literacy programs to guarantee that all students will be able to read by the third grade. I have worked to ensure that the emphasis is on the child, rather than the bureaucracy, allowing us to make real progress in our schools.
