Washington, Sep 16 -

Washington, D.C.--Iowa Congressman Tom Latham recently met with Roy Brown and Eli Williamson of Leave No Veteran Behind, a not-for-profit organization that repays student loans for qualified veterans not covered under current military programs. Roy Brown and Eli Williamson, both veterans themselves, attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa together.

"No one has done more to secure our freedom than our veterans and military personnel and they must never be forgotten," said Congressman Latham. "Organizations such as Leave No Veteran Behind are a part of an integral support system for the men and women who have put their lives on the line for our country."

Brown and Williamson spoke with the congressman about their experience in creating Leave No Veteran Behind and the work they've done to partner with corporations and other organizations. Leave No Veteran Behind creates partnerships to help pay for veterans' student loans in cases where the amount of the loan is not covered under the GI Bill. "The current GI Bill and the Military Student Loan Repayment Program have helped many veterans pay the costs of their education," said Eli Williamson, the organization's executive director. "These programs are effective but do not apply to all veterans who have served honorably."

Congressman Latham has recently worked to support an expansion to modernize the GI Bill and provide for a greater amount of educational loans to veterans. The Post 9/11 GI Bill expands veterans’ educational benefits to cover virtually all costs related to their post-service education.
