Transportation
The highway bill, which is updated only every six years, is a blueprint that governs how and where billions of federal dollars are spent to improve the nation's highways. Since coming to the Senate in 1987, I have fought to increase Missouri's share of federal dollars for transportation. As the chairman of the subcommittee responsible for writing federal highway legislation, I was able to bring $1.3 billion in new federal funds to Missouri to improve highways and make them safer and less congested in the most recent transportation bill.
