Home Infusion Therapy

H.R. 2567
Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Coverage Act

Bill Status: Referred to House Ways and Means subcommittee on Health (6/12/07)

For years home infusion therapy has aided caner patients suffering from side effects of treatment such as infection, pain, and congestive heart failure. Unfortunately, this innovative cancer solution is not always available to patients because of Medicare limitations on funding for the therapy. Infusion therapy is necessary when patients need intravenous medication to be delivered directly to their bloodstream or spinal cord. This is a convenient form of treatment for many patients, but unfortunately it is not always accessible to patients in rural areas or those whose insurance does not cover this important therapy.

That is why I introduced H.R. 2567, the Medicare Home Infusion Therapy Act of 2007. This bill will provide Medicare with the funding to cover these costs and will bring home infusion therapy into the homes of cancer patients nationwide. We now have the means and responsibility to aid cancer patients and ease their suffering, and H.R. 2567 will help us accomplish this goal.
