WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (9/10) announced that the Communities for Alcohol- and Drug-free Youth (CADY) of Plymouth will receive a $125,000 Drug Free Communities Support Program grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA) to combat substance abuse in Grafton County.

“This effort, which includes local school districts and community organizations, will respond to increasing reports of substance abuse in Southern Grafton County,” said Sununu, who supported CADY’s grant application in a letter to Education Secretary Margaret Spellings last March.  “By focusing on reducing substance abuse among young people, the CADY Coalition will work to ensure that students are better able to succeed in school and complete their educations.  I was pleased to support the Coalition’s funding request, and look forward to working with the member organizations in the future.”

The CADY Coalition, which serves 18 Grafton County communities, will use the funds to implement a regional media campaign to increase substance abuse risk awareness, establish a regional Youth Advisory and Advocacy Council, and increase parent and community education and information resources.
