In celebration of American Education Week, the Verizon Foundation awarded Chairman Bart Gordon with the first 'Innovation in Education Award.' As an advocate for education, Chairman Gordon sponsored the America COMPETES Act (H.R. 2272) which promotes America's competitive lead in innovation by improving math and science education. The America COMPETES Act was signed into law on August 9, 2007.
The event also celebrated Thinkfinity.org, a website that offers elementary through high school teachers educational resources in eight academic fields, such as math and science.
