Rogers: Democrat Energy Bill Punishes Americans

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, MI-08, issued the following statement today after the U.S. House voted late Tuesday evening on a Democrat “energy” bill that fails to provide an effective energy policy for Americans struggling to pay high prices at the pump and facing mounting costs to heat their homes this winter:

“In Michigan, the last thing we need is a sham energy bill that does nothing to help create jobs through nuclear power, American-made renewable energy, and alternative fuel autos. The legislation before us is not an energy bill that helps the average American; it is a plan that punishes hardworking American families by raising their monthly bill for turning on the lights, cooking their food, getting on the internet, or getting their children to school or the doctor, or for going to work. The measure says ‘no’ more than it says ‘yes’ and it is a slap in the face of middle class American families. It says ‘no’ to biomass, ‘no’ to coal, ‘no’ to nuclear power, and it makes it easier for China to drill off our coast than for us to produce American-made energy. We should not be punishing America; we ought to unleash the resources we have to help America get the energy it needs and create the jobs that are the lifeblood of our nation.”
