Washington, DC (May 23, 2007) - United States Representative Jeff Miller, Congressman of the First Congressional District of Florida, will tour the Eglin Community Base Outpatient Clinic’s construction site on Tuesday, May 29th. The clinic is a cooperative partnership between the base and the Veterans Health Care Network.
The new veterans’ clinic at Eglin was first proposed by Congressman Miller in June of 2002, following the visit of then-Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs Anthony Principi to Northwest Florida. Representatives broke ground on the clinic on Oct. 16, 2006. The $5.2 million, 16,700 square-foot clinic is projected to open early next year.
“This new clinic is an extraordinary victory for our veterans in Northwest Florida,” Miller said. “Okaloosa County is home to one of the largest concentrations of veterans in Florida and the nation. It doesn’t make sense for them to drive all the way Pensacola for primary health care.”
Congressman Miller continues working with the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to expand co-sharing facilities throughout the country. The clinic at Eglin Air Force Base, along with the new Joint Ambulatory Care Center (Super Clinic) in Pensacola, are at the cutting edge of innovations in veterans’ care and exemplify a model for the nation.
