United States Congressman, Jeff Miller
MILLER WINS NMFA’S “SUPPORT OF MILITARY FAMILIES” AWARD

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 19, 2004) - At a reception last week on Capitol Hill, the National Military Family Association (NMFA) presented Representative Jeff Miller (R-FL-01) with the Association’s 2004 Support of Military Families Award. The award recognizes service and dedication to improving the quality of life for uniformed servicemembers and their families. “We are grateful to Congressman Miller for all of his efforts on behalf of our military community. Together, we are truly making a lasting difference in the lives of our military families,” said NMFA’s President, Candace Wheeler.

Representative Jeff Miller (R-FL, 1st)
Since arriving in Congress, Representative Miller established himself as a champion of veteran and survivor concerns. In the 108th Congress, Representative Miller supported the effort to secure concurrent receipt of military retired pay and veterans’ disability compensation and improvements to the Servicemember’s Civil Relief Act that were so beneficial to the military and their families in 2003. NMFA also honors Representative Miller for leading efforts to eliminate the age-62 offset to the Survivor Benefit Plan payment received by widows and widowers of military retirees. On this subject, Representative Miller remarked, "I greatly appreciate NMFA's support in my efforts to restore SBP to its intended 55%. This is restoration of fairness and equity, 32 years in the making for the surviving spouses of America's greatest generation. It is a giant leap forward and sends a clear message to the career servicemen and women who provide our national defense today: we are a grateful nation and this Congress is making good on its promises to our armed forces.”

About NMFA
The National Military Family Association is the only national organization whose sole focus is the military family and whose goal is to influence the development and implementation of policies that will improve the lives of those family members. Its mission is to serve the families of the seven uniformed services through education, information and advocacy.
