Washington, D.C. (October 05, 2004) - NFIB, the nation’s largest small-business group, today named U.S. Rep. Jeff Miller (1st Dist.- Fla.) a Guardian of Small Business for his outstanding voting record on behalf of America’s small-business owners in the 108th Congress.
NFIB President and CEO Jack Faris praised Rep. Miller for "taking a stand" for small business, citing Miller’s 100 percent NFIB voting record. Faris today vowed to make Rep. Miller’s “rock-solid, pro—small-business voting record” a key element in the campaign when presenting him with the group’s coveted “Guardian of Small Business” award. “Small-business owners pay close attention to how their elected representatives vote on the issues affecting their businesses and stand by those who stand by them,” said Faris.
“Rep. Miller is a stalwart champion of small business, having stood strong on the key small-business votes in the 108th Congress,” Faris said. “This award conveys our appreciation for supporting the NFIB pro-growth agenda for small business and represents our commitment to do what it takes through Election Day to return Rep. Miller as a member of the 109th Congress.”
NFIB's voting record tallies twelve key small-business votes in the U.S. House of Representatives taken during the 2003 and 2004 sessions. Issues range from tax relief, to affordable health care, to liability reform, to regulatory reform. NFIB highlighted Rep. Miller’s key votes for the passage of Small-Business Health Plans, a permanent end to the death tax, and The Jobs and Growth Act of 2003, which accelerated the income-tax cuts enacted in 200l for all taxpayers and included key tax provisions for small businesses.
In all, NFIB will present Guardian awards to 48 senators and 232 representatives who voted favorably on key small-business issues at least 70 percent of the time during the 108th Congress.
