Iran: Realities, Options, and Consequences. Part 3 – Regional and Global Consequences of U.S. Military Action in Iran

On November 14, 2007, the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs held a hearing entitled, “Iran: Realities, Options, and Consequences. Part 3 – Regional and Global Consequences of U.S. Military Action in Iran.” This wasthe third in the series of hearings examining U.S. foreign policy towards Iran. Witness List:

Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, USA (ret.) Colonel Wilkerson served as chief of staff and senior advisor to Secretary of State Colin Powell, special assistant to the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and director of the U.S. Marine Corps War College. He holds two advanced degrees, one in international relations and the other in national security studies.

Paul Pillar, Ph.D. Dr. Pillar served for 28 years in the CIA, including as National Intelligence Officer for the Near East and South Asia from 2000 to 2005 and as deputy director of the CIA Counterterrorism Center. He holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Princeton University and currently serves as a professor at Georgetown University.

Lt. General Paul K. Van Riper, USMC (ret.). General Van Riper served more than 40 years in the Marine Corps, including as Commanding General of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Development Command, first President of the Marine Corps University, and Commanding General of the 2nd Marine Division. General Van Riper received numerous decorations during his military service, including the Silver Star with Gold Star, Bronze Star with Combat “V, ” the Purple Heart, and the Legion of Merit.

Ilan Berman. Mr. Berman is the Vice President for Policy at the American Foreign Policy Council. He is a member of the Committee on Present Danger, and author of Tehran Rising: Iran’s Challenge to the United States. Mr. Berman has consulted for both the Pentagon and CIA.

Colonel Samuel B. Gardiner, USAF (ret.) Colonel Gardiner is a war strategy scholar and former faculty member of the National War College, the Naval War College, and the Air War College. Colonel Gardiner has designed and participated in numerous war game simulations involving Iran including one to be broadcast on CNN in early December.
