Brown Unveils Web Page For Families Affected By DHL Deal

Washington, DC—Following a call yesterday to the White House on behalf of southwest Ohio families, Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today unveiled a new page on his Senate Web site that will serve as a news and information gathering source for families affected by the possible DHL deal with UPS.

In May, German-based Deustch-Post, the parent of DHL, announced plans to end its contract with Wilmington-based ABX and ASTAR, potentially eliminating more than 8,000 area jobs.

"Like so many Ohio families, I was deeply distressed by the news, and the potential impact such a decision could have on southwest Ohio," Brown said. "In addition to working with my colleagues to prevent the job loss, I want southwest Ohio families to have a place to get up-to-date information and to share their stories."

The Web page, on Brown's Senate Web site www.brown.senate.gov, will allow visitors to read stories and news about the issue and to submit their own stories. Brown will use the stories to educate his colleagues and continue to raise awareness.

"This is more than just numbers and bottom lines," Brown said. "This is about families and a community that have been very good to DHL. Their voices must be heard."
