On January 29, 2008, the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs conducted an oversight hearing into U.S. policy with regard to the critical February 18 elections in Pakistan. The hearing featured Richard A. Boucher, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and the Administration’s point person on U.S. policy toward Pakistan. This hearing served as a follow-up to Chairman Tierney’s December 20, 2007, hearing on the Pakistani elections that featured, among others, former Senate Majority Leader Thomas A. Daschle.
