Weaponizing Space: Is Current U.S. Policy Protecting Our National Security?

On May 23, 2007, the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs held an oversight hearing to explore the Administration’s military and diplomatic policies toward the use of space. The hearing examined the 2006 National Space Policy (unclassified version) and the impact of Administration policies on the use of space by other countries, such as the January 2007 anti-satellite test by China.

National Security and Foreign Affairs Subcommittee Examines Securing IEDs and Munitions in Iraq

On March 22, 2007, the Subcommittee Chairman Tierney held a hearing exploring IED and conventional munitions storage sites in Iraq and whether the Department of Defense has taken appropriate steps to identify and secure these sites. A GAO report released at the hearing documents how poor planning and overly-optimistic assumptions led to countless unsecured munitions sites throughout Iraq.
