The Three R’s of the Postal Network Plan: Realignment, Right-Sizing, and Responsiveness.

On Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 2:00p.m. in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building the Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service and the District of Columbia will hold a hearing entitled, “The Three R’s of the Postal Network Plan: Realignment, Right-Sizing, and Responsiveness.”

The hearing will examine the Network Plan’s potential impact on the public, the postal workforce, the mailing industry and the future economic health of the Postal Service.

“The U.S. Postal Service, Post-PAEA: What’s Next?”


The Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service and the District of Columbia will hold a hearing entitled “The Economics of Universal Mail Post PAEA.” The hearing will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 2:00p.m. in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The hearing will examine the degree to which the Postal Service has taken advantage of the specific provisions to the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act (PAEA) to enhance its economic situation in the future.

The House Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service and the District of Columbia will hold a hearing entitled “Eliminating Smoke and Mirrors in the Mail.” The hearing will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., in room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will examine Postal Cooperative Mail and Postal “nonmailable tobacco.”

Managing Diversity of Senior Leadership in the Federal Workforce and Postal Service

The House Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia and the Senate Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce, and the District of Columbia will hold a hearing entitled “Managing Diversity of Senior Leadership in the Federal Workforce and Postal Service” on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Room 2154, Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing will examine the views of various governmental and non-governmental officials on the “Senior Executive Service Diversity Assurance Act” (H.R. 3774 and S. 2148). The hearing will also discuss efforts within the Executive Branch and Postal Organizations to create a diverse senior executive service as part of a larger strategy to improve the overall diversity of their respective workforces.

The U.S. Postal Service 101

The Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia held a hearing on the U.S. Postal Service. In 2006, the USPS delivered over 213 billion pieces of mail to over 146 million delivery points at a cost of $72 billion. The subcommittee's hearing was an overview of the USPS's operation and business practices; mail growth and delivery services; and infrastructure and realignment.
