Kaibab National Forest Proposes Fuels Reduction on 17,337 Acres Williams, Ariz. —The Kaibab National Forest is proposing a variety of vegetation and fuels reduction treatments on 17,337 acres located between three and 12 miles south of the city of Williams on the forest’s Williams Ranger District. The details of the proposal are available in the McCracken Project Proposed Action, a document that was released today. Primary treatments proposed as part of the project include mechanical tree removal and prescribed fire. The goals of the McCracken Project are to reduce the risk of stand-replacing wildland fire, improve overall forest health and sustainability, and protect public and private resources in and around the project area. Individuals wishing to review the McCracken Project Proposed Action document can do so by viewing it online later today on the Kaibab National Forest website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/kai and clicking on the link for “Projects, Plans and Resources;” by picking up a copy at the Williams Ranger District office during normal business hours; or by calling (928) 635-5600 or sending an email to sklogan@fs.fed.us to request a copy be mailed. The Kaibab National Forest will host an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1 in the large conference room of the Williams Ranger District office in order to provide additional information, answer questions and accept comments.
