The purpose of this site is to provide practical information on solar energy and energy efficiency. Whether you're designing or building a new home or need more information on solar water heating or heating a swimming pool we hope you find this information helpful. Our monthly meetings are typically held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00pm in the UTEP campus room 205 of the classroom building, next to the engineering building. EVENTS January Meeting will be a movie night! This month we will be meeting January 8th so people can recover from the holidays. To get the new year off right, the meeting will be a movie night! We will be showing video clips from YouTube to inspire us to become more solar in 2009. We will provide snacks but please feel free to bring some of your own. We will meet at 7 PM in Classroom Building Rm. 205 as usual. See you there! Last month, we were lucky to get Marty Howell, the sustainability director for the city of El Paso. He covered the many efforts that the City has agreed upon or is looking to do in the future. For instance, all new city buildings are now required to be built LEED Silver. Now Marty is pushing to require all existing City buildings that get renovated must be LEED. Also the cost of using the landfills to generate electricity was looked at. But the is hope that they may apply some solar technology to future Sun Metro hubs. Our thanks to Marty for taking the time and we hope to work closely with him in the future. First was Thomas Friedman on Nov. 11th on his book "Hot, Flat, and Crowded". Then on the following night, T. Boone Pickens talked about his book and his plan for using renewable energy to get America self-sufficient. The El Paso Solar Energy Association (EPSEA) was founded in 1978 and is the oldest, continuously active, local solar organization in the United States. EPSEA publishes a monthly newsletter on solar energy and EPSEA activities. The purpose of EPSEA is to further the development and application of solar energy and related technologies with concern for ecologic, social and economic fabric of the region (West Texas, Southern New Mexico, Northern Mexico). In addition to monthly meetings/seminars, EPSEA conducts technology demonstrations, information booths, and conducts project development work related to renewable energy technologies in the Southwest U.S. and Northern Mexico. EPSEA is a Chapter Member of the Texas State Solar Energy Society, of the American Solar Energy Society. EPSEA is a registered nonprofit 501 (c) (3)
