USGS Library for S-PLUS for Windows

Description:

This is Release 2.1 of the U.S. Geological Survey S-PLUS library. It comprises functions, dialogs, and datasets used in the U.S. Geological Survey for the analysis of water resources data.

This library requires Release 6.1 or later of S-PLUS for Windows. S-PLUS is a commercial statistical and graphical analysis software package produced by Insighful corportation (http://www.insightful.com/).

The USGS library is not supported by Insightful or its technical support staff.

• Graphics
  • hydrograph - surface-water and ground-water hydrographs (dialog or function).
  • piperplot - Piper diagram (dialog or function).
  • stiffPlots - Stiff diagrams (dialog or function).
  • subseriesplot - plot data grouped by seasons (no dialog, function only).
  • usgsboxplot - boxplot with features special to USGS (dialog or function).
• Statistics
  • seaken - seasonal Kendall (no dialog, function only).
  • kensen - Kendall's tau with Sen slope extimator (no dialog, function only).
  • S-ESTREND - ESTREND for S-PLUS (dialog only, no function).
  • mdlstats - statistics in the presence of multiple detection limits (MDL) (dialog or function).
  • mdlreport - present summary statistics for multiple detection limit (MDL) data (no dialog, function only).
  • move.1 - Maintainence Of Variance Extension 1 (Line of Organic Correlation) (dialog or function).
  • predict.move.1 - predictions based on MOVE.1 (Line of Organic Correlation) (dialog or function).

  • importRDB - import an RDB file (dialog or function).
  • censpp - plotting postions for censored data (no dialog, function only).
  • conv.to.meq - convert concentrations to milli-eqivalents (dialog or function).
  • group2row - equivalent to UNIX group2row function for reorganizing QWDATA output (dialog or function).
  • na2miss - convert NAs to numeric missing values (no dialog, function only).
  • removeTrailingBlanks - remove trailing blanks from a character string (no dialog, function only).
  • reorganize - reorganize a data frame putting the numeric columns at the end (dialog or function).

  • zeropad - pad with leading zeros (no dialog, function only).

  • SwiftcurrentDV.cts - daily values as a cts object.
  • TogoGW.its - ground water levels as an its object.
  • Low Flow data - two data frames of low flow.
  • Meriden.cts - monthly data as a cts object.
  • qw.conc.df - water quality concentrations.
  • qw.milli.df - milliequivalents made from concentrations (as an exercise for the student).
  • qw.stacked.df - reworking QWDATA output.
  • WI1MajorIons.df - singly and multiply censored data at a single station.
  • WI3TotalP.df - singly censored data for multiple sites.

• External data files
  • Test_Full.RDB - testing importRDB.
  • MarshRiverDVA.rdb, MarshRiverDVW.rdb, TogoGWSI.rdb,
  • TogoNWISWeb.rdb - illustrate working with various NWIS outputs.

  Installing the USGS Library:

  1. Stop S-PLUS if it is running.
  2. If you are upgrading from a previous version of the USGS Library, delete the S_HOME\library\USGS directory. This is typically \Program Files\Insightful\splus61\library\USGS.
  3. Download USGS_lib.zip (size 6,589 KB).
  4. In some directory (e.g. C:\Temp), unzip USGS_lib.zip. This creates a directory called USGS which contains a dozen or so files and a .Data directory.
  5. Copy the entire USGS directory to S_HOME\library\USGS which is typically C:\Program Files\Insightful\splus61\library\USGS.
  6. From the USGS directory, move the file S.init into \Program Files\Insightful\splus61\local or equivalent. This forces the automatic loading of the USGS library (functions, dialogs, datasets, and Help) when S-PLUS is started.
  7. From the USGS directory, move the file gui.chm into \Program Files\Insightful\splus61\cmd or equivalent replacing the file of the same name already there.
