Planning and Evaluating Information Outreach Among Minority Communities: Model Development Based on Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest

Progress to Date

Coordinated and co-presented a panel session at the Medical Library Association Annual Meeting titled "Making an Impact Through Outreach." Josephine Dorsch moderated the session and panelists included Catherine Burroughs, Nancy Press, and Carol Jenkins.

Advisors: Received and incorporated comments from a formal review of the draft guide by Jo Dorsch and Kim Witte.

Literature review and analysis: In developing the draft Guide, Catherine Burroughs continued to analyze literature reviewed in the fields of health communications, library science, and program evaluation.

Evaluation methods and outreach evaluation: Catherine Burroughs and Maryanne Blake attended a workshop conducted by advisory panel member, Fran Lewis, titled "Needs Assessment and Health Education Programs." Developed several formative evaluation questionnaires for outreach activities to Pacific Northwest Tribes.

Outreach to minority communities: RML staff continued to carry out outreach to Native American communities. In the past quarter, training workshops have been offered to several tribes, including Sauk Suiattle and Suquamish. On our primary contract, Chholing Taha, American Indian/Alaska Native Resources Information Specialist continued our Web page development with the Association of American Indian Physicians (AAIP).

Development of the planning and evaluation resource and the continuing education syllabus: Catherine Burroughs completed a second draft of the field manual that was formatted for a prototype layout and distributed at the Medical Library Association panel forum.
