Message from Deputy Assistant Secretary Pat Stanley

Welcome to the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) Community College Web site.

Community colleges are a critical part of the educational system in our country, offering affordable education and training to millions of Americans. OVAE's goal is to provide the information and leadership required to improve accessibility, affordability, accountability, and quality in community college education. In addition, we hope to heighten awareness among a wide range of constituencies about the superior education and training that community colleges provide. Our office is in a unique position to encourage other federal agencies to use their agendas to address issues affecting community colleges.

This Web Site is a source of information and resources for all community college constituencies, including students, faculty, leaders, presidents, chancellors, and others. We are in the process of enhancing the web site to include exemplary community college programs, case studies, reports, OVAE projects, Perkins and Adult Education legislative information, and links to other appropriate sites. In addition, the site will include information about community college-related conferences and transcripts of community college-related speeches delivered by the Secretary, the Assistant Secretary and myself.
