HHS Region 2 Director's Biography

Deborah Konopko is the Secretary's Regional Representative for Region II for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Previously, Ms. Konopko served as Deputy Secretary to Governor George E. Pataki where she developed and led Administration initiatives for the New York State Health Department, the Medicaid program and the New York State Department of Insurance. Prior to serving as Deputy Secretary, Ms. Konopko served as First Assistant Counsel to the Governor and Assistant Counsel to the Governor.

Prior to joining Governor Pataki's office, Ms. Konopko was an Assistant Director for the New York City Office of Management and Budget. She has also held positions as Deputy General Counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and as an Adjunct Professor at Suffolk University School of Management in Boston where she taught a course on Health Politics and Law. Early in her career, Ms. Konopko was an associate in general corporate practice at Csaplar & Bok in Boston.

Ms. Konopko received her A.B. degree from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. Ms. Konopko received her J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law.
