International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP)About the ProgramUSAID's Office of Food for Peace (FFP) works with partner organizations to reduce food insecurity in development and emergency situations around the globe. In November 2000, the International Food Relief Partnership (IFRP) Act was passed by Congress in an effort to: - Diversify P.L. 480 Title II sources of food aid commodities; and
- Expand upon the base of non-profit organizations that partner with USAID for international humanitarian food aid assistance.
FFP has implemented the IFRP Act through grant awards to U.S. non-profit organizations for (1) the preparation and storage of shelf-stable prepackaged food, and (2) the delivery and distribution of those commodities in developing countries. To date, numerous new, non-traditional food aid private voluntary organizations (PVOs) have partnered with FFP through the IFRP program to provide food assistance worldwide. The IFRP program complements the PVOs' primary development and humanitarian activities with an important food component, making their programs more comprehensive. The shelf-stable, prepackaged commodities currently available under the IFRP program can be easily transported, require little storage space, need no regular fumigation, and do not overly tax PVO management or staff logistical capabilities.
