San Joaquin Chlorides - supplementary drilling Stockton East Water DistrictProject Chief: Loren Metzger and John Izbicki Water levels are declining and chloride concentrations are increasing in western San Joaquin County as a result of pumping in excess of recharge. One method of controlling declining water levels (and thereby controlling increasing chloride concentrations) is through increased ground-water recharge. An ongoing USGS study has identified a need for an additional depth-dependent monitoring well to evaluate the effect of ground-water recharge operations by the Stockton East Water District. The proposed multiple-well site is intended to provide data on water level responses to ground-water recharge and changes in water quality at discrete depths within the aquifer. ![]() Contact InformationLoren Metzger and John Izbicki
