Animal Feeding Operations Air Agreement
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will begin a 2-year on-farm monitoring study in 2007. The study, the next phase of the Air Quality Compliance Agreement announced on Jan. 21, 2005, will determine emissions from dairy, swine, and poultry concentrated feeding operations to ensure compliance with environmental laws.
The primary goals of the Air Quality Compliance Agreement are to reduce air pollution; ensure compliance with applicable Clean Air Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and Environmental Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) provisions; monitor and evaluate animal feeding operation (AFO) emissions; and promote a national consensus on methodologies for estimating emissions from AFOs.
