Nevada Go Local Project Launched

In September, 2006, Nevada became the 18th MedlinePlus Go Local site with the debut of NevadaHealthNet.org, providing residents of the Silver State with a reliable, fast and user-friendly internet database to locate health information, as well as health services, providers, and other resources in their communities. There are about 2200 listings included in Nevada HealthNet, and the project team will continue to accept suggestions for additions or other changes to the database. Suggestions may be made with an online form available through the “Contact Us” link. Nevada joins Arizona as the second state in the NN/LM Pacific Southwest Region to successfully launch a Go Local site. (more…)

National Medical Librarians Month — 2006

The Medical Library Association has declared October as National Medical Librarians Month. In honor of this event, the National Library of Medicine and your NN/LM Regional Network Office are celebrating the contributions of medical librarians in two ways — by providing a letter of recognition to hospital administrators and by promoting Network member outreach projects. Regional Funding Opportunities in the New Five-year Contract

Funding Mechanisms Extend our Reach

NN/LM PSR will use a variety of mechanisms to leverage our funding and outreach throughout the region during the 2006–2011 contract period. These include Express Outreach Awards, Internet Connectivity awards, the Library Improvement Program, and MedlinePlus Go Local awards. In the 2001–2006 contract, the efforts of subcontractors reached 72% of our outreach audience. In making awards, we try to fund activities in each state and jurisdiction of the region, adjusting the level according to population needs in those areas. Projects are generally completed within 12 months after the award.

New NN/LM Contract for 2006-2011

The National Library of Medicine has reappointed the UCLA Louise M. Darling Biomedical Library as Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Pacific Southwest Region (NN/LM PSR). NCLIS Award Winners from the Pacific Southwest!

On May 3, 2006, NCLIS (U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science, an agency of the Federal government) sponsored the 2006 Libraries and Health Information Forum at the National Library of Medicine. The purpose of the day-long forum, organized by the staff of NCLIS and the National Library of Medicine, was to bring together the representatives of the ten libraries that were finalists for the 2006 Health Information Awards for Libraries as well as others interested in consumer health information.

Arizona Go Local Goes Live!

On June 1st, Arizona Go Local (http://medlineplus.gov/arizona) debuted as the 15th MedlinePlus Go Local site and the first state site in the NN/LM Pacific Southwest Region! Arizona Go Local, an enhancement to MedlinePlus® , provides a directory of local health services for residents of the Grand Canyon State.
