US-India Coal Working Group Meeting

The fifth Energy Dialogue Coal Working Group (CWG) meeting was held in conjunction with the broader overall US-India Energy Dialogue meeting chaired by U.S. Under Secretary Bud Albright and Indian Foreign Minister Shivshandar Menon in New Delhi, India on March 31-April 4. The week-long series of working group meetings (coal, oil and gas, power & energy efficiency, and new technology) focused on cooperation in energy security, promotion of increased trade and investment, and the deployment of clean energy technologies. Meetings were held with a number of senior Indian officials, including India's Secretary of Coal, Harish Chandra Gupta; India's Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Murli Deora; India's Minister of Power, Sushilkumar Shinde; and India's Secretary of New and Renewable Energy V. Subramanian. The U.S. delegation included several DOE/Office of Fossil Energy representatives including Judd Swift, Raj Luhar and Craig Zamuda.
