Veterans, National Guard, Reservists & Eligible Dependents Use GI Bill Educational Benefits in Apprenticeship or On-the-Job Training

How to Begin
- Contact the Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office (888-442-4551) to determine your eligibility for GI Bill education benefits (Guard and Reserve see your education officer). They will want to know your social security number and birth date.
- If you are eligible for GI Bill educational benefits and have an employer who is willing to place you into an Apprenticeship or On-the-Job Training program, contact your respective State Approving Agency located at http://www.saavetrain.org - click on Veterans Education Officer and choose your state:
- If you do not have a job or if you are not working in the career position you desire and are underemployed, contact your local one stop Workforce Development center. They can also help you develop a resume to communicate your skills, experiences and education to prospective employers.
The Department of Veterans' Affairs will also provide educational or vocational guidance, if requested: 800-827-1000.
Determining Eligibility
Chapter 30: Must have entered active duty after July 1, 1985, and contributed $100 per month during the first year of service to the Montgomery GI Bill.
Chapter 35: A surviving spouse or dependent of a killed / missing in action or a 100% service connected disabled veteran with wartime service.
Chapter 1606: National Guard and Reserve members with a 6-year commitment. Contact your National Guard or Reserve Unit to obtain your Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE).
Chapter 1607: On or after September 11, 2001, if the member served on active duty in support of a contingency operation for 90 consecutive days or more. Contact your Guard or Reserve Unit to verify your eligibility and obtain your NOBE.
