This report provides recommendations on use of the licensed quadrivalent vaccine against human papillomavirus (HPV) for HPV types 6, 11, 16, and 18 for the prevention of HPV-associated conditions such as cervical cancer, cervical cancer precursors, and anogenital warts. The recommendations were developed by CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. The goal of this report is to provide recommendations on the quadrivalent HPV vaccine for clinicians, public health officials, and others who are interested in preventing HPV-associated conditions in the United States. Upon completion of this educational activity, the reader should be able to 1) describe the epidemiology of HPV in the United States, 2) identify recommendations for HPV vaccination in the United States, and 3) and describe the characteristics of quadrivalent HPV vaccine.

  • Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Credit

  • This activity for 1.75 contact hours is provided by CDC, which is accredited as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.


  • Continuing Medical Education Credit for Nonphysicians (CME-NP)

  • CDC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for nonphysicians. CDC designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.75 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician''s Recognition Award. Each nonphysician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.


  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit

  • CDC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. CDC designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.75 hours in category 1 credit towards the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.


  • Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Credit

  • The CDC has been reviewed and approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) 1620 I Street, NW, Suite 615, Washington, DC 2006. The CDC has awarded 0.15 Continuing Education Units to participants who successfully complete this activity.
