The current draft guidelines are too extreme and the money spent to meet these guidelines could be put to better use. Mandated audible traffic signals (ATS) at all intersections with "walk/don't walk" signs are not necessary. They would not improve access and may actually decrease safety due to distractions created by the variety of tones added to the soundscape.

There are adequate cues available to detect the transition from sidewalk to street. Adding detectable warnings could cause the blind pedestrian to trip. It would be hard to shovel snow and ice could form, adding to hazardous walking conditions for all pedestrians.
