Randy BurtRacer Named Conservation Winner
Randall “Randy” Burt, 52, of Rowan, Iowa, is known locally for racing school buses and semi- tractor trucks at northern Iowa race tracks.  But this part-time racer and full-time farmer is also recognized as a conservation leader in Wright County.

 


 


Kentucky

Mill Branch, a small headwater tributary of Stinking Creek in southeast KentuckyMill Branch Stream Restoration Project to Preserve Blackside Dace
Mill Branch, a small headwater tributary of Stinking Creek in southeast Kentucky, supports a population of the federally threatened Blackside Dace (Phoxinus cumberlandensis), a small fish usually less than 3 inches long.  In early 2006, NRCS in cooperation with federal, State, and local partners began developing a stream restoration project with four private landowners on Mill Branch Stream in Knox County, Kentucky.

South Carolina NRCS State Conservationist  Walter W. Douglas Walt Douglas to Retire
South Carolina NRCS State Conservationist  Walter W. Douglas will retire on January 3, 2008, after a nearly 43 year career with NRCS.  As the current South Carolina NRCS State Conservationist since May 2000, he began his career with the agency as a soil conservationist in New Hampshire.
