Tools and Publications

The Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) offers a wide array of publications, videos, software, and other information products for improving industrial energy efficiency. Most items are available on-line or may be obtained by contacting the EERE Information Center.

The following tools and publications help industry identify opportunities for energy savings:

Software

Decision tools software provides users with the ability to identify and analyze energy system savings opportunities in your plant. Tools are available for machine drive, steam, process heating, and compressors. The tools are accessible here for download, and we also encourage you to attend a training workshop to enhance your knowledge and take full advantage of the software's opportunities. For more information please visit the Best Practices Program's software tools page.

Databases

The Best Practices Program's databases provide contact information for energy system manufacturers, service providers, and help users find recommendations and results from plant-assessments. For more information please visit the Best Practices Program's databases page.

Plant Assessments

The Best Practices Program offers plant-wide energy assessments to identify opportunities that can help plants save energy. After a competitive solicitation process, a qualified team conducts an on-site analysis of energy systems use and identifies opportunities for improvement. Energy productivity and waste assessments are also available at no cost. For more information please visit the Best Practices Program's plant assessments page.

Publications

The IES Program's analytical publications provide insight of where energy is used, where losses occur, and the role of industrial energy systems in each industry.

  • Energy Use and Loss Footprints
Energy footprints map the flow of energy supply, demand, and losses in U.S. manufacturing industries.
  • Energy Use, Loss, and Opportunities Analysis for U.S. Manufacturing and Mining
An analysis of the energy consumption and losses associated with industrial energy systems in the top energy-intensive industries and opportunities for reducing losses (PDF 2.1 MB). Download Adobe Reader.
  • Technology Roadmap for Energy Loss Reduction and Recovery in Industrial Energy Systems
Read about key opportunities for reducing energy losses through advanced industrial energy systems and best practices (PDF 836 KB). Download Adobe Reader.
  • Profile of Total Energy Use for U.S. Industry
An Overview of the total energy use in U.S. Industry, from the conversion of raw materials to the production of finished goods (PDF 371 KB). Download Adobe Reader.
