FY 2005-2009 RREA Strategic
Plan
Extension natural resource professionals
from across the country have collaborated
to produce a 5-year strategic plan for the
Renewable Resources Extension Act (RREA)
Program, Sustaining
the Nation’s Forest and Rangeland Resources
for Future Generations.
Congress enacted the Renewable
Resources Extension Act in 1978. The
legislative mandate for RREA is: “to
provide for an expanded and comprehensive
extension program for forest and rangeland
renewable resources.”
The RREA strategic plan was prepared in
response to requests from the CSREES administrator
and the Extension Committee on Organization
and Policy (ECOP) Forestry and Natural Resources
Task Force. Administrators, program leaders,
and extension educators from 54 institutions
representing 48 states and territories were
involved in a year-long effort to identify
strategic issues and Cooperative Extension
System responses to address those issues
through educational programs.
Priority issues are:
- Diverse Audiences;
- Economic Opportunities for Individuals
and Communities;
- Forest Stewardship and Health;
- Invasive Species;
- Land Conversion, Fragmentation, and
Parcelization;
- Public Policy;
- Rangeland Stewardship and Health;
- Wildlife and Fisheries Resources;
- Program Administration and Leadership.
