DOE Academies Creating Teacher Scientists (DOE ACTS) Program

Revitalizing Teachers of Science, Mathematics, and Technology through Laboratory Research

DOE ACTS (formerly LSTPD) is a national program run by the Department of Energy's Office of Science through national science laboratories. Teacher internships are a vital component of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's Office of Education Programs.

NREL's Office of Education Programs offers an opportunity to emerging education leaders and teachers of science, mathematics, or technology in K-14 schools or community colleges. The program is designed to revitalize the research interests of science teachers and improve their content knowledge and scientific skills. Participants conduct supervised, state-of-the-art renewable energy research and participate in professional development as a summer research associate.

DOE ACTS provides teachers with professional, science, and technological research experiences through an eight-week summer research appointment at NREL. In addition, resources and scientific consultation are provided to the teacher for at least three years. Participants are expected to continue their research experience the next summer in a four to eight week program at NREL or another participating national laboratory.

For information including eligibility and application information, visit DOE's Office of Science Education Web site. For more information about the DOE ACTS Program, contact Linda Lung at linda_lung@nrel.gov or (303) 275-3044.
